Property man Stephen scales peak for charity
Hurstwood Chairman Stephen Ashworth has taken his firm’s charity fundraising efforts to new heights after tackling one of the world’s highest peaks – he trekked up Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa in aid of Derian House Children’s Hospice near Chorley.
Stephen and the company have now raised in excess of £150,000 for Derian House in recent years — via charity dinners and other activity — and more than £250,000 for a range of different good causes.
“It was a truly incredible trip — it was tough because of the endurance and the weather conditions but I am happy I achieved it. The final ascent was really tricky. We started out we were in temperatures of 20 degrees but by the time we got to the peak it down to -20 degree,” said Stephen of his 10-day trek up the mountain which is on the North Eastern tip of Tanzania.”
“Hurstwood has been raising money for Derian House for several years now — it’s a really special cause for all of us and everyone at the company has made a contribution to it over the years.”
Stephen’s previous charity challenges have included a hike up Mount Blanc, cycling treks through the Canadian Rockies, The Grand Canyon and across Jordan. Inspired by his charity efforts he is now midway through a Mountain Leadership Course.
